As the use of social media networking rises, a lot of businesses start to take advantage of this trend by creating their own accounts in social networking sites like Facebook. Creating a Facebook account allows businesses to market their products and services to a much larger audience.
If you already have a Facebook account, then perhaps you are already aware of all the clutter that can mess your profile up. Having a clean Facebook profile will rid you of confusion and distractions, and will allow you to make your account fully efficient. Cleaning up your Facebook account is easy, as long as you take note of the following tips:
Manage friend lists. If you have a normal Facebook account for your business instead of an official business page, then you may have a lot of Facebook friends. It would be a great idea to categorize and group your friends by creating friend lists so you can have better control over your account. For example, you may create a friend list consisting of fellow marketers, another one consisting of prospects, and another one consisting of gurus. By doing so, you can filter whose updates show on your news feeds, and you can even post content exclusively for certain friend lists. This will make your account more organized and easier for you to manage.
Clean up your News Feed. If you see tons of irrelevant updates on your News Feeds, then you can remove them by hovering over the certain update and clicking “Hide”. After clicking, you will be asked to choose whether you don’t want to see updates from a certain friend or a certain application. Cleaning up your news feed will allow you to easily find relevant information from your friends’ updates.
Remove unnecessary application activities from your Facebook Wall. You may do this by viewing your profile and clicking on “Remove” beside the activity you want to delete. Furthermore, to prevent applications from automatically posting unnecessary clutter on your wall, just go to “Application Settings” under the “Account” tab, and then choose to show “Authorized” from the drop-down menu. You can delete unnecessary apps by clicking “x”, or you can just choose to edit their settings and deny them the permission to publish recent activity.
Rid your Wall of comments from other users. A wall full of posts by other users will not look good on your profile and may drive prospects away. Since you can’t control what other users may comment, it is a good idea to prevent friends or fans from posting altogether. You may do this by going to “Options” on your wall, clicking “Settings”, and removing the checkmark from the corresponding box. On the other hand, you may also just opt to display your own posts on your wall in the default view. Just go to “Options” – “Settings” to fix it. This way, prospects who view your profile will immediately see your own posts and notice your updates first.
Once your Facebook account is cleared of all those clutter, you may now maximize its features to improve your business. However, you shouldn’t forget to perform regular maintenance of your account to prolong its efficiency. Your Facebook profile shows prospects your business’ image and gives them an idea of how you are as a marketer. That is why it is important to properly manage and maintain your account to make it more presentable and appealing to the public.
